View of the Pacific Ocean from hole number 3 at Palos Verdes Golf Club

The Palos Verdes Golf Club opened its doors and course on November 15, 1924. The Club, built as an amenity for those who were purchasing lots in the private development that was Palos Verdes Estates, it was advertised at that time as “the only all-grass seaside links in the Los Angeles territory”, in The Country Club Magazine and Pacific Golf and Motor. Designed by one of the iconic golf course architect of the times, William P. “Billy” Bell, it was further touted for its “fourteen holes out of eighteen have a clear ocean view”. While tree growth has impacted that hyperbole, today’s course has had few modifications to its routing and has maintained its character; a course designed around the existing barrancas, creeks, hills and eucalyptus grove.

Palos Verdes Golf Club’s course is 6,200 yards, par 71. Since 1995, it has been the home of the prestigious Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge pitting 15 of the top Women’s Collegiate Golf Programs every February. UCLA has won the Regional Challenge in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2013.
The Lady Bruins enjoy playing privileges at PVGC, as it is one of the UCLA’s home courses.
